Commercial Associate – Bilaterals at Mainstream Renewable Power
Key Responsibilities
- Apply the Mainstream proven tender response delivery process and lead bid submissions for a successful delivery within the commercial environment; this includes delivery of all required documents from bid stage through to Financial Close;
- Collaborate with other Mainstream teams (development, energy analysis, procurement, engineering grid etc.) to compile compliant bid response documents;
- Support and in some instances lead on Analysis, Presentation and Participation in all EOI/RFI/RFQ/RFPs (South Africa and Africa);
- Support the Commercial Team with activities related to all bilateral off-taker opportunities;
- Develop an understanding of financial models using Excel, focusing on:
- Understanding the model inputs and outputs
- The investor expectation requirements and equity return calculations, and
- Understanding the long-term debt instruments and structures and subsequent inputs in the financial models.
- Provide market analysis on energy-related activities in South Africa and Africa;
- Provide updates on regulatory changes in South Africa and Africa; including that which relates to energy regulators, Government departments, utilities, the Carbon Tax Bill, wheeling, energy banking, grid compliance requirements and any other energy related interface in the region; and,
- Support other Mainstream departments as it relates to commercial activities;
Other Responsibilities
- Positioning the Mainstream brand as a recognised leading renewable energy player with stakeholders in existing and new markets;
- Monitor South Africa and Africa market opportunities and news.
- Inter-departmental support and engagement.
- Ensure that projects are developed in accordance with Mainstream’s SHEQ policies and procedures and in accordance with all applicable legislation; this includes adherence to and continuance of ISO accreditations;
- Maintain an information eco-system on Share-Point aimed at creating a reference library for key technologies, regulations, papers and key project supporting evidence for tenders etc.
Key requirements for success in this role
- 3 -5 years work experience
- Experience in the South African renewable energy market is highly advantageous
- Degree in commerce, engineering, law or accounting;
- Collaborative team player;
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills;
- Ability to take ownership and drive both tasks as well as help create / modify existing strategy based on analytical learnings; and
- Independent thinker
- Self-starter
- Very strong relationship building skills;
- Strong MS Office skillset (Excel, PowerPoint and Word) a must;
- South African citizen;
- Very strong motivation to make a career within a new industry and scale-up business;
- Mindset and ability to work / communicate in a fast-paced environment;
- Fluent English language skills is a must;
- Understanding of large scale renewable energy project development advantageous.
