Peter Obi Hails Tinubu’s Move to Cut Presidential Travel Expenses by 60%

Peter Obi Hails Tinubu's Move to Cut Presidential Travel Expenses by 60%

In a noteworthy development, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, has commended President Bola Tinubu for the recently announced cut in presidential travel expenses.

This move, disclosed by the President’s spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, aims to reduce wastage and curb recurrent expenditure by decreasing both the expenses and the size of entourages on foreign and local trips.

However, Obi believes that while the 60% reduction in the size of federal official entourages is a positive step towards governance cost reduction, it is merely scratching the surface.

He expressed concerns that the measure might only lead to negligible savings and called on President Tinubu to provide details on the actual amount saved.

In a post on his official social media handle, Obi suggested a more comprehensive approach, advocating for a 60% reduction in federal official overseas trips and a similar cut in the size of delegations.

He emphasized the need for a substantial 60% reduction in the total cost of governance at the Federal level, urging a revision of the recently passed federal budget to eliminate wasteful and unnecessary items.

Obi stressed that the saved funds should be redirected to vital sectors such as education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation. He insisted on transparency, demanding that the government inform the nation about the specifics of the measures and how the savings would be applied.

In conclusion, Obi emphasized the necessity for more than token gestures, urging the government to address the economic challenges by drastically cutting the cost of government and redirecting funds to areas that will positively impact the nation’s wellbeing.
