Wayne Rooney has been dismissed from his role as manager of Birmingham City after a mere 15 matches in charge, leaving the team languishing in 20th place in the Championship.

Rooney took the helm at St Andrew’s on October 11, signing a three-and-a-half-year contract with aspirations of propelling the team to greater heights. At the time of his arrival, the club was in a promising sixth place following consecutive victories under the previous manager, John Eustace.

However, the optimism quickly waned as Birmingham struggled under Rooney’s leadership, suffering nine defeats out of the 15 matches played.

The disappointing run of results plummeted the team to the 20th spot in the Championship table, prompting the club’s decision to part ways with the former England international.

In a statement, Rooney acknowledged the performance shortcomings, stating, “Football is a results business – and I recognize they have not been at the level I wanted them to be. However, time is the most precious commodity a manager requires, and I do not believe 13 weeks was sufficient to oversee the changes that were needed.”

Expressing his personal disappointment, Rooney mentioned his plan to take some time with his family as he prepares for the next opportunity in his managerial journey.
