NNPP Drops Bombshell: Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf Not a Registered Member
Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s legal battle took a surprising turn as the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) questioned his membership in the party, potentially jeopardizing his chances at the Supreme Court.
The Court of Appeal had recently sacked the governor, and the NNPP claimed that the ruling stemmed from the high-handed actions of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, alleging that the former governor restricted some members from registering within the party as per its constitution.
NNPP’s National Chairman, Dr Agbo Major, expressed concern over the escalating issues in Kano State during a press conference. Letters addressed to the Inspector General of Police and Director General of the Directorate of the State Security Services emphasized the party’s worry about the unrest.
Major highlighted various disruptive activities, including protests, attacks on the judiciary, and visits to embassies, attributing them to non-Kano indigenes led by expelled NNPP members, allegedly coordinated by Kwankwaso.
Major stressed the party’s commitment to the rule of law and disapproved of any attacks against the judiciary. The NNPP asserted that the tribunal and Court of Appeal rulings questioning Governor Yusuf’s membership were due to non-compliance with the party’s constitution.
He further stated that Kwankwaso’s high-handedness had prevented party members from registering properly, leading to the current misfortune.
As the NNPP intensifies its stance against the alleged irregularities within its ranks, Governor Yusuf’s Supreme Court hopes hang in the balance, raising questions about the political landscape in Kano and the impact of internal party dynamics on the judicial process.
