Ghanaians Blast Akufo-Addo For Praising Himself After Spending 5 Billion Cedis To Feed The Poor For Just 3 Weeks
President Akufo-Addo has come under serious fire from Ghanaians taking glory after providing food for some category of Ghanaians during the COVID-19 lockdown.
It can be recalled that during the lockdown in March, authorities pointed out that they would provide hot meals for the ‘weak and the vulnerable’ in parts of Accra and Kumasi.
Later in an address by Finance minister, Ken Ofori Atta, he disclosed that the country spent 5 Billion old Ghana Cedis (Ghc54 million) on feeding the weak and vulnerable in Kumasi and Accra.
This raised a lot of eyebrows especially from many discerning Ghanaians and the opposition parties demanding a probe into how the COVID-19 funds were spent but the government is yet to comment on the issue.
Earlier today, in a tweet purported to appeal to voters, President Akufo-Addo appeared to have been praising himself for spending that much money on proving for barely 2,000 people within 3 weeks.
He tweeted, ”Needy and vulnerable persons within Accra and Kumasi received cooked food packs and dry food packages during the lockdown period”

This angered Ghanaians for the fact that; 1. Other countries in the world feed the weak and poor for free but the government is making taxpayers bare the cost and 2. The amount mentioned is too high and unbelievable.
Reacting to the tweet, Felix wrote; ”Every country feeds their weak and vulnerable for free but you spent 54 million on it for just 3 weeks. You’re more than wicked!”
Don Nobel wrote; ”If you’re tweeting this then Mahama who solely distributed foods and PPEs should stand on house top announce”
Mary Banks wrote; ”IMF gave u $1B, the covid fund gave u some, but u remove Gh54m from it and buy waakye in a ‘kuluulu’ way for some selected party members and say we should clap for u? Have u accounted for the $1B and the covid fund? Subtract Gh 54m from all these monies and see the balance”
